Why study economics at York?

We offer a broad range of programmes across many areas of economics. You’ll have the chance to develop your skills in areas you’re interested in, or branch out and discover new methods and problem-solving solutions. Explore areas of study at the frontiers of economics, grounded in real-world application.

Our courses have a strong core of training in fundamental areas of economics and econometrics, with option modules covering a wide range of areas including development, financial, health, international and public economics, as well as micro and time series econometrics. We also contribute to a suite of finance courses, along with the Department of Mathematics and the School for Business and Society.

Our courses are well regarded by employers and external examiners. MSc Economics was established in 1966 and, running since 1978, MSc Health Economics is one of the oldest and most successful masters programmes in its field.

The MSc programme at York offers the kind of modules that fit my career and research interests, to enrich my understanding of financial markets, emerging markets, social policy and economic models. The programme provides solid foundations for a future career in financial services or a research degree in economics or finance.
