Chekwube Madichie is a PhD researcher and a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) in the Department of Economics and Related Studies (DERS), University of York, United Kingdom (UK). His PhD research is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), under the White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership (WRDTP). Chekwube's research interests align with the Health Economics and Applied Microeconometrics clusters within DERS. His current research adopts the standard Grossman model of health capital to a dynamic stochastic framework with a focus on how mothers' schooling influences both maternal healthcare utilisation and child health.
Chekwube had previously worked at the Lagos Business School (LBS) of the Pan-Atlantic University, where he conducted research and rendered teaching assistance as part of a greater community of individuals dedicated to producing and disseminating management and business knowledge applicable to Nigeria, Africa, and the rest of the world. Chekwube was involved in several projects as part of his work role at the LBS, with a focus on solving business problems related to business strategy, financial and risk management, alongside corporate governance. Beyond his engagement with private sector players, Chekwube also engaged with the public sector through his supporting roles at the LBS's Sustainability Centre and the LBS's Centre for Public Sector Initiative, where he worked with other team members in delivering projects for the institution's public sector clients.
Chekwube holds Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Master of Science (MSc) degrees in Economics from Anambra State University (now Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University) and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nigeria, respectively. Chekwube has scholarly publications in reputable journals and has actively engaged in peer-review activities for some journals including Financial Innovation (Springer), Cogent Economics and Finance (Taylor & Francis), African Journal of Science, Technology, Innovation, and Development (Emerald), Cogent Social Sciences (Taylor & Francis), Energy and Environment (SAGE), Cogent Business and Management (Taylor & Francis), among others. Chekwube is a member of the Nigeria Economic Society (NES), African Finance and Economics Association (AFEA), Nigerian Association for Energy Economics (NAEE), and the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE).
As part of his contributions to the global human capacity building, Chekwube created ViData Solutions, a YouTube digital platform, designed to teach hands-on practical econometrics and data analyses to young researchers, using Eviews, Stata, Gretl and SPSS.
