Honorary Fellow becomes Slovakia's Finance Minister
Today, Michal Horvath will be appointed finance minister in Slovakia's caretaker government.
Michal Horvath, a former lecturer and now honorary fellow in our department, will be appointed finance minister in Slovakia's caretaker government on 15 May.
He will serve in a technocratic, caretaker administration chosen by the President of the Slovak Republic to lead the country until early elections in September 2023.
Michal's links with York go back to the time of his postgraduate studies. He graduated from York with an MSc in Public Economics in 2003. He returned to York as lecturer in 2014 having completed his PhD at the University of St Andrews and worked as a research fellow at the University of Oxford. After leaving York in 2019, Michal has been chief economist at Slovakia's central bank.
