Abstract:  Over the past years there has been a significant increase in the use of eLearning technologies to complement the teaching of Economics in Higher Education. The benefits of these technologies are usually clear: they allow for increased efficiency, especially in large classes, can help with interactivity and engagement, and can allow for more flexibility in delivery. But, in my experience, this technology can also have detrimental impacts on student engagement and students’ sense of community. In this talk, I discuss examples of how and why I’ve used technology to have a positive impact on my teaching, and where I have scaled back my use of technology to improve the student experience.
