Publication News: Matt Townend's 'J. R. R. Tolkien: A Very Short Introduction'

Congratulations to Matt Townend, who has just published 'J. R. R. Tolkien: A Very Short Introduction' (Oxford University Press).

Matt says, “This is a book I enjoyed writing very much, and it connects very closely with my teaching in the Department of English and Related Literature at York.

Over the years, my thinking about Tolkien has been greatly shaped and stimulated by the experience of teaching my 3rd Year module ‘From Tennyson to Tolkien: the Middle Ages and Modern Literature’, and I have also learned a great deal from supervising dissertations on Tolkien at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Quite rightly, former students get pride of place in the acknowledgements at the start of my book!”
