How were women involved in Caribbean colonisation and slavery, and how can we understand the connections between English society and developments in the seventeenth-century Caribbean through women, their families and networks?
In this paper, Misha Ewen will share some preliminary findings from her new book project on the role of white English women and their families in Caribbean colonisation and enslavement, including the role of women as absentees, how they reinvested their wealth in England, and how they saw to the future prospects of their children through schooling and marriage.
