Speaker(s): Drs Emilie Murphy (Galway), Helen Pierce (Aberdeen), and Lizzie Swann (Cambridge)
Join us for a research celebration and showcase, featuring three CREMS alumni: Dr Emilie Murphy (Galway), Dr Helen Pierce (Aberdeen), and Dr Lizzie Swann (Cambridge). Each speaker exemplifies the interdisciplinary spirit of the CREMS community, and will offer a snapshot of her current research. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion, continuing over drinks and dinner.
Emilie Murphy, 'Musical self-fashioning and the "theatre of death" in late Elizabethan and Jacobean England'
Helen Pierce, 'Who do you think you are? Union and identity in the early portraiture of James VI and I'
Lizzie Swann, 'Scientia potentia est?: Knowledge, pain, and power in early modern England'
We particularly welcome prospective MA and PhD students, who will also have the opportunity to meet CREMS staff and current postgraduates. Refreshments will be available in BS/008 15 minutes before the start.
After the seminar, we will go for drinks in The Courtyard, and then to dinner at Red Chilli. Please let Helen Smith (helen.smith@york.ac.uk) know if you would like to join us for dinner, before noon on Wednesday 7th January.
