Speaker(s): Dr Emilie Murphy
What did it sound like to be a Catholic, secretly practising your religion, in late Elizabethan and early Stuart England? Featuring exclusive musical performances, Dr Murphy's talk will explore how music created and expressed communities, and will relate the experiences of Catholics in England with their exiled counterparts in the Spanish Netherlands - like Thomas Markenfield in the aftermath of the 1569 Northern Rising.
