The award is one of only a handful handed out globally each year so Christa faced some tough competition. It is a tremendous accolade and relates to a systematic review of the benefits of earlier antibiotics in people undergoing chemotherapy who develop a temperature, and in particular, how we can improve the speed of delivery.
The protocol for Christa's work can be found here and the results of one of the reviews has just been published in Supportive Care in Cancer journal. As part of the prize Christa will be presenting her work to colleagues from SIOP at a meeting in Lyon, France, in October this year.
This is the third 'Young Investigator' award for CRD members researching infections in children's cancer. Dr Jess Morgan was granted the SIOP award in 2015, and the same year Dr Bob Phillips was granted the SPARKS Young Investigator award by the UK Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
