This page gives more tailored information about option selection for either undergraduate students currently on placement or due to go on placement during the next academic year.
Students who are following an industrial placement route select their options in the spring when they are on their placement. Therefore, if you are due to go on placement, you will not have to select your options before you go. However, we advise that you carefully read this guidance.
The specific timings are listed on the main options page.
For a better idea of what modules to select, a VLE showcase page will be made available.
For further guidance, we recommend that discuss option selections with your academic supervisor and/or with individual module leaders. Please select your options within the time frames specified. We will contact you directly with more information about how to submit your options.
If you have any general questions about your placement, please discuss with the Placements Team at cs-placements@york.ac.uk. If you have any questions about the options process please email the Student & Academic Support Team (SAST) at cs-ug-admin@york.ac.uk.
Project selection will happen when you return to your studies at the start of next academic year.
If you have an industrial placement confirmed for next year, you do not need to select your options now. Instead, you will choose your option in the spring while you are on placement.
However, if you do not have a placement secured when options open, we suggest that you select some options for next year. You can then hold these modules in reserve as a 'Plan B' in the event that you do not go on placement.
If you are on an industrial placement route and in the first half of the Summer Semester you do not have a confirmed placement for next year, you may need to consider changing your course to a route without a year in industry. You should discuss your situation with the Placements Team at cs-placements@york.ac.uk. The Placements Team will discuss this option with you at the point where it appears likely that it is not possible to find a placement in time for your Year in Industry.
If at the end of the placement process, if you do not have a placement confirmed you will also need to complete a course transfer request. This is carried out via e:Vision. Course transfers can take a few weeks to process centrally so please bear this in mind if you decide to do this during our UG option selection process (in Semester 2).
