Head of Department 1992-1999

Keith Mander studied at the University of Nottingham, completing a BSc in Mathematics and a PhD in Computer Science in the 1970s. His first academic appointment was as a Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Liverpool. 

Professor Keith Mander worked at the University of York from 1981 - 1999, becoming the Head of the Department of Computer Science in 1992. 

In 1999, Keith was appointed to the University of Kent as Professor of Computer Science; from 1999 to 2002 he was also Director of the Computing Laboratory.  In 2002 he was appointed first Pro Vice-Chancellor then Deputy Vice-Chancellor, with University-wide responsibilities that have included Planning & Resources, Staff Policy, Estates and Information Services. From 2005 to 2007, Keith was Chair of the Council of Professors and Heads of Computing.  Keith oversaw the extensive celebrations to mark the University of Kent’s 50th year, which included visiting alumni across the globe.
