Professor John Clark

Professor John Clark studied Maths and then Applied Statistics at Oxford, before joining the security division of the software and systems house Logica, where he worked on security evaluation and security R&D between 1987 and 1992.
John joined academia in 1992 as CSE Lecturer in Safety Critical Systems at CSE International, co-sponsored by the University of York. This was a very interesting time training members of CSE, carrying out elements of research and involvement in some real-world safety engineering projects.
In 2002 he was awarded his PhD in Cryptography and Heuristic Search from the University of York. John was promoted to a Personal Chair in January 2005.
He was Head of Department in the Department of Computer Science at the University of York in 2016.
John left York to take up the position of Professor of Computer and Information Security at the University of Sheffield in April 2017 where he leads the Security of Advanced Systems Research Group.
