The Google DeepMind Research Ready programme is a pioneering new scheme providing undergraduate students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented groups with experience in AI.
A partnership between the Royal Academy of Engineering, Google DeepMind and The HG Foundation, the scheme is funding up to 120 paid research placements, hosted by 11 universities across the UK. The programme will support eligible undergraduates to improve their knowledge and research skills in the field of AI, and build confidence in taking the next steps in their education or career.
At York, two world leading research centres have joined forces to create an exciting eight-week programme for Google DeepMind Research Ready interns. Experts based in RoboStar and the Centre for Assuring Autonomy will offer interns the opportunity to work in the fields of intelligent robots and safe AI. Participants will be paid a generous stipend, and assistance with travel and accommodation costs will be provided.
Professor Ana Cavalcanti, Director of RoboStar, said: “The York robotics and AI community has a tradition of offering internships over the summer. The Google DeepMind Research Ready programme is a rewarding opportunity for both students and supervisors, and we are looking forward to welcoming our first cohort in June 2025."
