The Warren Vanbrugh's Home
Named for Dr Allen Warren, Vanbrugh's longest serving Provost, The Warren was converted from the Provost’s house into a college space for Vanbrugh in 2013.
From movie and board-game nights to acoustic jam sessions, workshops, study groups and discussion evenings, the Warren is a welcoming place for our members to be.
You can find The Warren just across from the Information Centre, surrounded by a lovely garden which can be used by college members as a lunch spot or a place to relax on a sunny day.
Our spacious lounge, dining room, kitchen and snug are available for students to socialise and study on weekdays and most evenings, while the college offices and music lending library are upstairs.
Our college home has a microwave, kettle, fridge, books, TV, video games, board games, puzzles, sewing machines, craft cupboard, electric drum kit, and piano - all available for our students to use.
To sign out a garden game out of hours, or do a bit of gardening, take your ID to the Vanbrugh Reception and collect the key to the shed.
The Warren is not bookable, but if you’d like to host a college activity at The Warren please contact the College Team (vanbrugh-help@york.ac.uk) or pop upstairs and see who’s available on the day.
Vanbrugh music facilities
Next to The Warren, ‘The Garage’ is a bookable space for bands and musicians who are members of the College Music Scheme. There’s also a recording studio attached to the Practice Space, where trained students can do their own recordings too.
The lending library is housed in The Warren and is open only during select hours. Students who are members of the College Music Scheme may sign out guitars and other instruments and equipment for use while studying (on a term by term basis). Certain instruments have a small charge attached but most are free to borrow.
