"Serving as President of Constantine College has been an incredibly rewarding experience. It has provided invaluable opportunities for growth in advocacy, teamwork, and management skills while making a real impact on our community."

What are College Student Leaders?

College Student Association Committee

All of York’s Colleges are led by a College Student Association Committee, made up of a group of elected student volunteers that help shape a college’s ethos, plan regular community-building events and represent their college.

Each Committee offers a wide variety of roles, so that all members can get involved and contribute to shaping a college’s identity. Whether you are interested in becoming the President of a College Committee, an Events Officer, or one of the 20+ other roles available, you will be part of a vibrant committee that enhances your skills and lets you give back to your community.

Second and Third Year Contacts (STYCs)

Second and Third Year Contacts (STYCs) help welcome students in their first week at University, often being the first person our new students meet on their arrival day. STYCs play an important role in helping our students get moved into their University accommodation and support them throughout Freshers Week.

As a STYC you’ll receive specialist training in supporting your peers as well as play a vital role in making Freshers Week a fun, welcoming experience for everyone.

Second and Third Year Mentors (STYMs)

Second and Third Year Mentors (STYMs) provide all new undergraduate students with a student peer supporter throughout their first year. With special STYM events and drop-ins throughout the year, STYMs provide a wealth of support for our first year students.

As a STYM you’ll receive in-depth training to be an effective peer mentor, supporting students to transition to independent living at University and developing a working knowledge of the support available at the University and beyond.

“Being a STYC was an exciting, rewarding and incredibly fun experience! I helped out at a wide range of events, got my Freshers settled into University and had such a laugh all Freshers Week long. This role helped me feel connected to my College and it was great to give back to the community - I would highly recommend becoming a STYC to everyone!”

Derwent College Head STYC, September 2024
