Communal areas
Our communal areas are open to James College members to hang out in and enjoy.
Relax in comfy seating, connect to the wifi and make use of the amenities listed below.
The Lakeside Common Room
Located on the lake in the James A/B/C quad, the Lakeside Common Room is a great place for college members to enjoy, socialise and study in. Inside you'll find a small kitchen area, comfy sofas, a piano, board games, books and some study tables. It is open for all college members to use from 8:30am to 5pm weekdays during the semester.
This space is also used for college events put on by the committee and staff; contact the college if you have an idea for an event you'd like to host for the college and we may be able to facilitate it (james-help@york.ac.uk).
The Lodge Common Room
Located in the College House at the end of the long driveway opposite the Roger Kirk Centre, The Lodge is a lovely space for off-campus and commuting students to have lunch and for students to socialise and study in between classes. Inside you'll find comfy sofas, board games and books, a small kitchen with microwave and kettle and the lakeside garden out the back. Open 9am to 5pm weekdays during the semester.
College events are often held here as well so look out for these in the weekly college newsletter.
Upstairs in The Lodge is where you’ll find our friendly college staff. If our door is open we are free; if it's closed please come back later or make an appointment by emailing james-help@york.ac.uk.
