This project will seek to use synthetic approaches in conjunction with NMR study to design new catalysts for chemical transformations. It will use the NMR sensitivity improving method hyperpolarisation to detect reaction intermediates that feature in catalysis. This outcome will be achieved through parahydrogen based sensitisation methods that can improve species detectability by four orders of magnitude. By overcoming the low sensitivity of NMR we will make currently impossible measurements possible, and target obtaining precise information on reactivity and selectivity though intermediate detection.
