Postdoctoral Research Associate

Megan is working as a postdoctoral researcher in Professor Gideon Davies' group investigating the roles of carbohydrate based enzymes, both structurally and biochemically. She completed her PhD at the University of York under the supervision of Professor Gideon Grogan. Her PhD was largely based on the structural characterisation of native amine dehydrogenases (nat-AmDHS) and the rational engineering of these enzymes to work as efficient biocatalysts towards producing a range of pharmaceutically relevant chiral amines. Megan also completed her MBioChem at the University of York with a Masters year in Professor Keith Wilson's group studying the structural features and binding modes of siderophore binding proteins.

Research interests

Megan's current project largely concerns the use of the activity based probes (ABPs) to target and uncover enzymatic activity across a range of glycosidase enzymes, alongside structural characterisation using X-ray crystallography or cryo-EM. The use of ABPs is important for studying biologically and chemically significant enzymes involved in health and diseases, and to facilitate the growing biotechnology field of glycoscience.
