Postdoctoral Research Associate in Microbial Biophysics

Fiazall is a Postdoctoral Research Associate working with Dr Jamie Blaza in the York Structural Biology Laboratory. He completed a PhD at Imperial College London under the supervision of Dr James W. Murray, investigating the structural regulation of the Calvin cycle and far-red light photoacclimation in cyanobacteria. Fiazall is currently working on the project 'Understanding an Ancient Universal Membrane Effector System' led by Prof Gavin Thomas and funded by the BBSRC, focusing on IM30 proteins' role in membrane repair and maintaining bioenergetic processes.

Research interests

Fiazall's current research involves studying the functionality of microbial IM30 proteins in response to membrane stress and their role in rescuing membrane function, using techniques such as cryo-EM and the bioenergetic chamber.
