University Research Themes
At York, researchers collaborate across the University's seven interdisciplinary research themes to address the great scientific, social and environmental challenges of our times.
Our department has particularly strong partnerships within three themes: Health and Wellbeing, Environmental Sustainability and Resilience, and Technologies for the Future.
Health and Wellbeing
Environmental Sustainability and Resilience
Much of our research is underpinned by our aim to tackle climate change and preserve our environment. Our activities range from developing circular economy solutions to field studies of urban air pollution.
Featured research
- Ozone-depleting substances in the atmosphere
- Natural organic emissions and summertime UK air quality
- REnewable SOLVEnts with high performance in applications and improved toxicity profiles (ReSolve)
Technologies for the Future
We're shaping the future by driving advances in technology - from designing new materials to exploring and applying fundamental processes that underpin hyperpolarisation techniques.
