Research Interests

My research largely focuses on iodine as an ozone-destroying compound in remote environments. While this is a significant loss route of background tropospheric ozone, its mechanism is not well resolved. This multi-disciplinary research therefore aims to improve our understanding of background tropospheric ozone in remote locations.

Research during my PhD was focussed on ozone deposition to the ocean; specifically the chemical reactions in the surface seawater, which drive deposition. To facilitate sampling and measurement of remote seawater samples, I spent four weeks working on a trans-Atlantic research cruise (CONNECT), as well as 12 weeks spent sampling and measuring at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS). Post-PhD my work has expanded to include investigation of iodine in the Arctic snowpack, investigating this as a source of reactive, ozone-depleting iodine compounds to the polar atmosphere.
