Speaker(s): Dr Seamus Delaney, Deakin University, Australia
All students should feel empowered and able to contribute to vital societal decisions related to their uncertain future in the Anthropocene. Holistic approaches to teaching and learning, such as systems thinking, leverage sustainable development-oriented contemporary science innovations to generate a self-sense of teacher and student agency towards addressing critical challenges facing society today. This session will present ongoing research into classroom-ready activities that provide educators the confidence to envisage systems thinking as an approach to help students connect chemistry to global sustainability challenges.
