Inspired by Natural Products: From Total Synthesis to the Design of Novel Catalysts, Hydrogels and Liquid Crystals

Our work with natural products such as macrocyclic acyltetramic acids and complex polyketides not only provided insights into the biological mode of action and required the development of novel synthetic strategies, but also gave access to interesting ligands for catalysis and stimulated work on biomimetic crosslinkers for hydrogels as well as building blocks for ionic liquid crystals. The lecture will present some selected examples.
