Wednesday 4 February 2015, 2.00PM to 3:00pm
Speaker(s): Dr Susan Quinn
Dr Quinn of University College Dublin School of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, will meet with the following research groups during her visit to York before giving the 2015 annual McCamley Lecture on 'Ultrafast Vibrational Spectroscopy of DNA Excited States'
Dr Quinn obtained a B.Sc. Hons (1st Class) from University College Dublin in 1997. She then completed her PhD studies on the topic of DNA Programmed Assembly of Heterosupermolecules under the supervision of Prof. Donald Fitzmaurice at University College Dublin. In 2002 Susan started her Postdoctoral studies with Prof. John M. Kelly and Prof.Thorfinnur Gunnlaugsson in Trinity College Dublin. After this time she took a position as postgraduate course coordinator in the School of Chemistry in TCD, (2006-9) and was responsible for development and implementation of Dublin Chemistry Graduate programme. In September 2009 Susan returned to a more research driven path when she joined the School of Chemistry and Chemical Biology in University College Dublin. In March 2010 the award of an SFI research frontiers grant enabled the group to consider the study of the binding interactions of carbon particles with nucleic acids. In May 2012 Susan was appointed as a permanent member of academic staff and is very excited to be developing her research interests across a range of areas. Susan is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Institute of Chemistry of Ireland.
