Chemistry Seminar
Friday 28 November 2014, 1.00PM to 2:00pm
Speaker(s): Dr Etienne Barnoff, University of Birmingham
Etienne Barnoff is visiting from University of Birmingham and will be giving a Seminar.
Etienne's research "deals with the design, synthesis and study of organic materials (in a broad sense, including organometallic complexes) for light and energy related applications such as OLEDs and photovoltaic cells. The primary goal is to understand the impact of bulk morphology on materials properties and to control the aggregation of molecules in condensed phases." Please contact Alison Parkin if you would like to meet Etienne on Friday.
Abstract: Cyclometallated iridium(III) complexes are arguably the most studied phosphorescent materials due to their unique photophysical properties and their potential as emitters for phosphorescent Organic Light Emitting Diodes. In this presentation, I will first introduce a simple but powerful model to tune the emission color and energy levels of such complexes. In a second part I will give two examples of how research can take unexpected turns, by telling the stories of the first highly luminescent iridium-based molecular square and of our development of tris-heteroleptic complexes.
