We have shown the utility of ethenetricarboxylates for various synthetic reactions, as highly reactive Michael acceptors. New Lewis acid-catalyzed reactions to afford oxygen and nitrogen-containing heterocycles, such as tetrahydrofurans, pyrrolidines, quinolines, and indoles have been developed.
Some other cyclization reactions utilizing ethenetricarboxylates will also be presented.
