Peter C. Smith is Emeritus Professor in CHE. He is a mathematics graduate from the University of Oxford, and started his academic career in the public health department at the University of Cambridge. He worked at the University of York for 25 years before moving to Imperial College Business School, where he is now Emeritus Professor of Health Policy.
His main research interests are in the finance and efficiency of health systems, with a special emphasis on the link between research evidence and policy. Current interests include: health system modelling; measuring and improving health system productivity; and universal health coverage. With colleagues he has published widely on these and related topics, including over 150 refereed papers and 14 books as author or editor.
Peter has acted in numerous UK governmental advisory capacities, and is currently chair of the NHS Advisory Committee on Resource Allocation. He has also advised many overseas governments and international agencies, including the World Health Organization, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Global Fund, the European Commission and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
