Paul is a Professor and the Co-Director of the Global Health theme at the Centre for Health Economics. He is also the Director of the Thanzi programme of research and policy impact activities. His interests expand across the field of health economics but centre on use of economic evaluation to inform resource allocation and health care organization. An aim of Paul's research is to inform better health policy-making, leading to improvements in population health and reduced health inequalities. This involves identifying aspects of health policy and practice that act to enhance or hinder population health improvement; assessing the suitability of health economic methods to guide activities addressing these, developing and proposing improved methods where necessary; and applying economic analysis to better inform health policymaking. His work has been particularly focused on sub-Saharan Africa and HIV.
Paul has affiliated positions with the MRC Clinical Trials Unit at University College London and the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) in London.
Paul will not have capacity to take on further supervision until the end of January 2025.
