Profile

Biography

Laura is Professor of Health Economics. She leads the Economic Evaluation theme and is also the chair for the Equality and Diversity committee in the department.  

Laura has worked on a wide range of applied and methodological projects, across Pharmacoeconomics and Public Health, in the UK and globally. She has worked on a number of projects involving the use of expert elicited data within decision analytic models and is particularly interested in this area and its application to issues of extrapolation uncertainty.

Laura currently leads the Applied Research and Collaborations (ARC) Yorkshire and Humber Health Economics theme, with Tracey Young at Sheffield. The program of work includes the use of economic evaluation across sectors, economic evaluation for local decision makers and the use of routine data for economic evaluation. Key areas of research include health and the environment, understanding and addressing challenges in emergency care, using routine data to inform decisions regarding service configuration in the NHS and methods of economic evaluation for social care.

Laura has contributed to technology appraisals for NICE in her role as a member of one of the independent academic groups undertaking assessments and evidence reviews. She has also served as a member of a Technology Appraisal Committee. She is a current member of the HS&DR funding committee.
