Clive Smee
We were very saddened to hear the news that Clive Smee, former Chief Economist in the Department of Health and Social Care, passed away over the Christmas period.
Clive was a strong supporter of the use of economic evidence to inform policy and he had a significant influence in government. He was also well-known in the academic community where his incisive commentary and analytical skills were widely recognised. I will remember Clive fondly both from my time as an economic adviser in the Department where his advice, leadership and support were invaluable to me personally, and also for his longstanding commitment to the role of health economics research in decision-making. He will be very much missed by many of us.
