As part of the joint REAL Supply and REAL Demand Research Units Health Economics and Policy Seminar Series, we are delighted to be hosting Dr Brendan Collins, former Head of Health Economics, Advanced Analytics and Policy Modelling in Welsh Government, who will be presenting:
Using health economics in local government and devolved administrations
Brendan Collins
As a health economist specialising in public health, Brendan has held a range of senior academic and health policy roles across the NHS, local and national Government, and, most recently, working as a consultant for UNICEF on return of investment for Social and Behaviour Change programmes around nutrition. Until earlier this year, Brendan held the role of Head of Health Economics, Advanced Analytics and Policy Modelling in Welsh Government where he played a vital role supporting the country’s Covid response. A Senior Lecturer at the University of Liverpool, he has led on economic modelling work for NICE around drug misuse prevention, and served as an expert member on a NICE Public Health Advisory Committee. He is currently a Trustee for Health Equalities Group which is a charity working to improve health and wellbeing, which includes Food Active and Healthy Stadia. He also sits on an Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) prevention committee, a European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) Advocacy, Quality Improvement and Health Economics Committee, and the Welsh Government policy modelling group.
