Involving Patients and the Public
Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) is an important part of our broader mission to connect and work with people outside of universities.
PPIE is a valuable and effective way to improve the quality and conduct of our research. But what is PPIE?
- Involvement is all the ways in which research is carried out with or by members of the public, not to, about or for them.
- Engagement is when researchers share information and knowledge about research with the public.
- By public we mean anyone who works in partnership with researchers, including patients, unpaid carers and people who use health and care services, as well as people from organisations that represent them.
Examples of PPIE in the Centre for Health Economics (CHE)
- NIHR Policy Research Unit in Economic Methods in Evaluation of Health and Care Interventions (EEPRU)
- NIHR Policy Research Unit in Mental Health (MHPRU)
- NIHR Policy Research Unit in the Economics of Health and Social Care Systems (ESHCRU)
- The Curiosity Partnership
