The Ron Cooke Hub is located on the lakeside on Campus East and forms a landmark for those entering the site from the Field Lane roundabout.
The Hub acts as a nucleus for Campus East, bringing together students, researchers, staff, knowledge transfer companies, business and commercial stakeholders and members of the wider community.
Amongst the research centres located in the Hub building are the Higher York Creative Technologies Centre, York Centre for Complex Systems Analysis and an Enterprise Systems research group.
The £21 million Hub provides superlative facilities including a 220-seat raked lecture theatre, the Lakehouse - a 100-seat teaching room with roof terrace, seminar and PC rooms, a business training suite, study decks for students, three meeting room 'pods' sitting in the Hub Basin, and the Hub Cafe in the splendid atrium, which provides meeting and networking space for internal and external stakeholders, as well as a superb conference and special function venue. Features include the hi-tech, surround-sound and -vision Demonstration Box and exhibition space in the Creative Technologies Centre and above it the multi-purpose collaboration space, the 'Island of Interaction'.
The University has been fortunate in securing some £17.5 million from the European Regional Development Fund in Yorkshire and the Humber. The funds, managed through Yorkshire Forward, provide £15.5 million for capital development on Heslington East and a further £2 million supporting two University biodemonstrator research projects. The investment forms a critical part of a major £19.4 million infrastructure project sponsored by Science City York, enhancing links between York's world-class science base and industry.
