Redevelopment of Derwent P accommodation

As part of the university’s commitment to upgrading some of its current accommodation at the same time as developing brand new rooms, the Derwent P accommodation block underwent an £8m refurbishment in 2023/24 creating new facilities for students.

As well as bringing the block up to the latest fire and electrical standards, the project refurbished current student bedrooms and kitchens across three floors and created additional bedrooms from existing offices. Derwent P now consists of 57 ensuite bedrooms and six kitchen areas as well as a number of new social areas, which were not available in the original accommodation.

The refurbishment also included the replacement of the flat-roof covering, replacement of 1990s UPVC windows with higher quality, aluminium double-glazed units, asbestos removal and conservation of the stairwells.
