York Campus Nursery
The University has run a popular nursery for many years but needed a new home when its current one reached the end of its lifespan. After consultation with parents, students and the local community a new location opposite the Sports Village on Campus East was chosen.
Despite facing delays, particularly due to the pandemic, work on the facility began in November 2022 and a brand-new building was completed in late 2023 and opened to children in January 2024.
The modern nursery features spaces for up to 94 children with dedicated age rooms, sleep spaces, a sensory room, and outdoor play areas, creating a bright and welcoming environment for children. The nursery provides ample outdoor space for children of all ages, and seamlessly integrates with the natural surroundings, allowing children to immerse themselves in and learn from nature.
The location offers convenient amenities such as storage for buggies, bikes and bike trailers, as well as exclusive parking for nursery drop-off and pick-up. A bus service to the rest of campus and into York runs just outside the site boundary.
As well as providing a key service to staff and students, the expanded provision can now offer more spaces to children from the local community. This both welcomes more people onto the campus and provides increased income to the university.
