The Centre for Applied Human Rights hosts each year up 10 human rights defenders (HRDs) from across the world on its Protective Fellowship Scheme for HRDs at Risk. The HRDs take part in CAHR's classes, providing a unique opportunity for our MA and LLM students to learn directly from grassroots activists working on the front line.
CAHR's MA and LLM students take part in a placement at a human rights NGO as part of their degree programme. The placement takes place in either South Africa (for the MA), Malaysia (for the LLM) or York (for either MA or LLM students). In this video, CAHR's students tell about their placement experiences in November-December 2014.
CAHR's MA and LLM students have participated in outreach work with local NGOs in York as part of their degree programme. Here students tell about their experiences and how the experiences gained can be useful in the future.
"The Protective Fellowship Scheme offers a visionary approach to protecting and supporting individuals who risk their lives for the protection of human rights."

Sara Campi and Amie Lajoie, students in the MA in Applied Human Rights in 2011/12 at the Centre for Applied Human Rights (University of York) photographed housing conditions in Cape Town, South Africa, during a fieldtrip in November-December 2011.
This video is a compilation of those images and interviews conducted with people living in these housing conditions.
