Biography

Pippa Cooper joined the Centre for Applied Human Rights in 2015 and is the coordinator of the UNESCO Human Rights Defender Hub. Pippa’s role is to support the work of the Centre’s UNESCO Chair in the Protection of Human Rights Defenders and Expansion of Political Space. The goal of the Chair, and its network of university and civil society partners, is to enhance the role of universities in activism and protection.

Pippa has a BA in Modern Languages and an MA in Human Rights and is currently a PhD student at the Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies, University of London. Her research focuses on memory work in peace movements in contexts of fragmentation and ongoing violence, and in particular the use of textiles for memorialising victims of human rights violations.
