CAHR welcomes our postgraduate taught students
The Centre for Applied Human Rights are pleased to welcome our postgraduate taught students.
27 September marked the start of our new academic year, and what a pleasure it was to meet so many of our LLM in International Human Rights Law and Practice and MA in Applied Human Rights students in person. Students were invited to take part in a social media campaign to raise awareness of Mohamed El-Baqer’s ongoing pre-trial detention. It wouldn’t be an induction event without some activism!
In a joint statement we call on the Egyptian authorities to end their practice of using pre-trial detention and unfounded terrorism charges to punish and repress human rights defenders for their legitimate work. The 29 September 2021 marked two years since Egyptian human rights lawyer Mohamed El-Baqer's arrest, meaning the length of his pretrial detention has now reached the maximum allowed under Egyptian law.
