As part of this process, Dr Alice Nah facilitated consultations with defenders at risk in Brussels on 24 June, and with civil society experts in Geneva on 4 July. At these consultations, participants drew attention to the serious human rights violations and abuses experienced by defenders. They expressed concern about the grave dangers involved in confronting powerful economic and political elites on their business practices and of holding them accountable for their actions. They highlighted good practices in the protection of defenders working on business and human rights, emphasising the key role played by states in this regard.
This report will be presented at the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly later this year.
