As part of the University’s commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day, chairs a panel on “Contemporary messages from HMD” that features Ruki Fernando, a human rights defender from Sri Lanka who is currently a Protective Fellow at the Centre. Other panellists include Marc Schatzberger (a Holocaust refugee), Ella Seligman (president of the Jewish Society on campus), and Christine Shepherd (Chief Officer of the York Travellers Trust). The centrepiece of the University’s commemoration will be the first UK performance of scenes from a play written by Jewish prisoners at Theresienstadt. Ruki will also take part in the concluding ceremony where candles will be lit to remember the victims of all genocides and crimes against humanity.
