CAHR Fellows advocacy trip to London
The three current CAHR fellows spent 5 days in London on a networking and advocacy trip.
They started the trip with a visit to the Houses of Parliament where they were able to observe Prime Ministers’ Questions and see UK democracy in action. This was followed by a meeting with the All Party Parliamentary Group for Human Rights and meetings with the Human Rights section and various desk and thematic officers at the Foreign and Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
Meetings were also held with NGOs working in areas similar to those of the CAHR human rights defenders such as Action Aid, the Rory Peck Trust, Reporters without Borders, PEN International and Media Defence. Two of the fellows spoke about their work at Amnesty International’s annual Country Coordinator forum on the 21st January and this was an excellent opportunity for them to link up with Amnesty UK country specialists and activists working across the country. All in all a very busy and very valuable trip.
