Participation in expert workshops on religion and human rights
At the beginning of October, Dr Ioana Cismas, CAHR’s co-director, participated in two expert workshops organised in Collonges and Geneva by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The Rabat +10 expert workshop discussed the implementation of the 2012 Rabat Plan of Action on the prohibition of advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence (A/HRC/22/17/Add.4). Examples of relevant practice include the use by Meta’s Oversight Board of the Rabat Plan of Action in making decisions about content on Facebook and Instagram.
The Beirut +5 expert workshop focused on the implementation of the 2017 Beirut Declaration and its 18 Commitments on “Faith for Rights” (A/HRC/40/58, annex II) through an innovative process of peer-to-peer learning. Ioana’s contribution drew on findings from the Generating Respect Project in relation to the engagement between humanitarians and religious leaders, and explored the use of the Rabat Plan and the Faith for Rights framework in times of armed conflict.
