Conversations with the University's Centre for Lifelong Learning and with individual researchers have brought about a number of ventures in the chronic diseases and disorders field.
Dr Ann-Marie Akehurst of the University's History of Art Department twice gave a lecture entitled 'The battle of the lunatic asylums in eighteenth-century York' in June 2013 to capacity audiences.
Three researchers - Professor Norman Maitland from Biology and Dr Mark Coles and Dr Dimitris Lagos from the Centre for Immunology and Infection -spoke on chronic disease topics at the 'Science is for Parents too' course sponsored by Wellcome, organised by Centre for Lifelong learning and held at National Science Learning Centre. The talks were very well-received, so much so that two of the speakers were invited back to talk a second time. There are now plans for a follow-up project recording interviews with researchers from C2D2 about their research.
Christopher Saunders, a Wellcome Trust funded CIDCATS student in the University's Centre for Immunology and Infection is giving a ten week course entitled: 'Inside the Human Body: A User's Guide'.
An eight week evening class on 'Reading and writing illness, 1700 to 2012' by Sarah Pett, a post-doc researcher in English Department, has been scheduled for the start of 2014.
