KTP Associate Mireia

"I began a 22 month KTP with Markes International straight after my PhD, after seeing it advertised on a recruitment advert.

The associate role was a benefit to my career as it enabled me to gain good professional experience and also self-confidence. The experience and the opportunity of getting a job abroad bought some challenges with organisation, the language barrier and activities, however, ultimately, everything went well. So much so that following the conclusion of the KTP I was offered and accepted a position at Markes!

To anyone that is considering applying for an Associate position, I would say 'Go for it and enjoy the experience.'"

"I heard about the three year KTP Associate position with Rolls-Royce Controls and Data Services from an academic colleague. At that time I had completed my PhD and had worked in a couple of roles.

"The position supported my research by providing a more industry focused view. It was also great meeting other KTP Associates and people with other horizons. I also had great work colleagues which doesn't always happen and you should do your homework when determining who you might work for and with."

"After completing my Masters degree I saw the advert for a two-year KTP Associate position with ADVA Optical Networking. I applied for it and got the job! I was also offered and accepted a position with them once the KTP project was finished.

As well as providing me with a job in itself the KTP benefitted my career by opening up more job opportunities in both academia and industry. Whilst at the beginning of the project I felt the objective wasn't very clear I was well supported in the role and found the collaboration between different stakeholders in the project and guidance from both academic and industry supervisors really inspiring.

For anyone considering applying for a KTP Associate position I would say 'Go for it. It would be a great facilitator for your future career.'"
