Jamie

The two year KTP Associate position at WildRover (now (RETiniZE) was Jamie's first full time job after completing his PhD. He went on to be offered a position at the company and still works there today.

How did being an Associate in a KTP benefit your career?

“Massively! It provided a launch pad for me to really take my career to the next level.”

What was the best thing about being involved in your KTP?

“Having the autonomy to conduct Research & Development into an innovative area that has had a significant impact to the company, the academic institution and me as an individual.”

Were there any negatives to your KTP involvement?

"Depending on the project, you may feel torn between using your time to benefit the interests of the company or the interests of the academic institution. Although the overall success of the project will benefit all parties, there are situations where you need to prioritise one party over the other and that can require a touch of diplomacy. You do have full support from the company, University of York and the Innovate UK Project Advisor."

What would you say to someone considering applying for a KTP Position?

"I would highly recommend it!"
