Course Leader: Anna Einarsdóttir

The University of York is delighted to be developing a practical and insightful CPD course aimed at Chairs of LGBTQ+ networks within the NHS. We are inviting Network Chairs to participate in this free pilot event to help us shape our evidence-based content and approach to ensure it really addresses the daily challenges faced by Chairs running their networks.

This training has been developed based on University of York research by Dr Anna Einarsdóttir and her team, that aims to better understand how LGBT+ networks are run and what they can do to improve relationships between colleagues and ultimately, improve the wellbeing of LGBT+ employees. The research focuses on LGBT+ employee networks within the NHS in 9 different institutions. Visit the LGBT+ Networks website to read more.

By attending this course, delegates will:

  • Define the purpose of their network and explore with others how to set aspirational objectives that will deliver better outcomes for all.
  • Explore the issues that really matter to members and develop skills to help keep these at the forefront of daily operations.
  • Learn about psychological safety and develop skills to enable honest conversations around identity for members.
  • Set expectations for network membership, ensuring all members, including allies, can make a valuable contribution.
  • Explore the barriers to success and discuss how these might be reduced or removed.
  • Learn from others’ experiences of running networks and collaborate to help shape future network chair training.

Following attendance at the training, we will be asking some delegates to participate in a 15 minute one to one zoom session where we will explore in greater depth the impact of the training and recommendations for future development. Zoom sessions will be organised later for a mutually convenient time
