Niels Viggo Haueter

Niels Viggo Haueter is an independent researcher focusing on the history of insurance and risk and societal and institutional responses to uncertainty. He has held several guest lectures at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo and the School of Economics at Peking University. He serves as Deputy Chairman of the Academic Council at the European Association for Banking and Financial History in Frankfurt. He co-edited World Insurance - The Evolution of a Global Risk Network (OUP, 2012) and Managing Risk in Reinsurance – From City Fires to Global Warming (OUP, 2017). He is the author of the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Business and Management entries on reinsurance: Reinsurance Function and Market (OUP, 2020) and The Impact of Reinsurance (OUP, 2022). He co-authored "The Dynamics of Banking and Insurance" in Kipping et al. (eds.) The Oxford Handbook of Industry Dynamics (OUP, 2022)
