Carlos Gabriel Guimarães

Carlos Gabriel Guimarães is a Professor of Economic History at Universidade Federal Fluminense in Niteroi/Rio de Janeiro. He has a PhD from the University of São Paulo, and a Post-Doctorate from the University of Lisbon. His research focuses on British direct investment and trade, and also banking history in Brazil, in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He is a Level One Researcher at the National Council of Technological and Scientific Development (CNPq) in Brazil, and is former President of the Brazilian Association of Economic History (ABPHE – Associação Brasileira de Pesquisadores de História Económica). He has won several research grants including from CNPq and FAPERJ – The Foundation for Research Support of the State of Rio de Janeiro. He is also a member of various editorial boards for Business and Economic History journals in Latin America.
