We are delighted to announce a Professional Development Workshop (PDW) hosted by Professor Roger Strange, the Editor-in-Chief of the journal “International Business Review”. The PDW is aimed at early career researchers and PhD students, and will focus on four key issues:
- What constitutes a “good” academic paper?
- Common pitfalls to avoid when preparing the original submission to an academic journal.
- Responding to reviewers.
- How to increase the impact and visibility of your paper.
There will be ample opportunities for discussion and questions.
About the speaker

Professor Roger Strange
Roger Strange is Professor of International Business in the University of Sussex Business School, having joined in September 2009. He was previously Professor of International Business at King’s College London, where he was Head of Department from 1990 to 1995. Roger is a former President of the European International Business Academy (EIBA). He was the UK National Representative on the EIBA Board from 2009 to 2017. He organized the 2012 EIBA Annual Conference at Sussex and the 2007 AIB-UKI Annual Conference at King’s College London. Roger is the co-Editor-in-Chief of International Business Review, and on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of International Business Studies, the Journal of International Business Policy, the Journal of World Business, the Global Strategy Journal, the Asia Pacific Business Review, and the Journal of Management & Governance.
Roger’s research focuses on four main areas of International Business: the reasons for the outsourcing of primary activities and the externalization of production in global value chains (GVCs); the effects of corporate governance factors on foreign direct investment (FDI) decisions; the determinants of MNE subsidiary location; and the impact of new digital technologies on international business theory and practice. He is the author/editor of fourteen books, and over one hundred journal articles and book chapters. He is a co-author (with Pervez Ghauri & Kjell Grønhaug) of the popular textbook, Research Methods in Business Studies (Cambridge University Press, 2020).
Roger is a Fellow of the Academy of International Business (AIB), a Fellow of the European International Business Academy (EIBA) and, in 2024, the recipient of the John H. Dunning Award for Lifetime Achievement.
