Biography

Xinru Yan joined the University of York in 2022 as a PhD student in Management. Xinru’s research focuses on the experiences of male early childhood teachers in China’s female-dominated nursery settings, exploring how these educators navigate their minority status, balance gender and professional identity, and influence dynamics with female colleagues. With a background in Human Resource Management and Accounting, Xinru employs qualitative methods, including participant observation and interviews, to investigate men’s experiences in female-dominated workplaces.

As an EDI Champion for the School for Business and Society, Xinru actively supports initiatives to enhance equality, diversity, and inclusion within the PhD community. Additionally, Xinru has taught seminars in Marketing, Business Ethics, and Social Work modules, as well as contributing to marking and feedback.
